SUPPORTING OUR COMMUNITY

Two hands hold either side of a small, black paper cut out heart.

Every sale benefits our local charities

Thanks to our very generous sellers who choose to donate their unsold items, we are able to help local charities and community organizations with essentials they need for charitable giving, services and community efforts.  At JBF, being able to give back to those in need is a privilege.

Your Charitable Giving at Work:

  • Items that Sellers Donate like clothing, household items and Toys are distributed to those in need in the St. Paul & Surrounding areas through Joseph's Coat Joseph's Coat serves families in the Twin Cities Area with goods and services to help them through rough spots. They have been serving here in our area since 1989 and typically facilitate the distribution of goods and services for more than 10,000 families each year.
  • Specific Items like Coats, Mittens and Winter Gear are donated to the White Bear Lake Education Foundation (WBLEF). Their Closet and Angel Fund are geared toward students and families in the White Bear Lake area who are in need of school year essentials.  JBF works with WBLEF to ensure they receive these donated items through seller donations, as well as our Fall Coat Drive and Raffle.
  • Clothing in good condition that is not JBF Sellable are donated to the 916 NE Metro Special Education Services Programs. These clothing items are used as back up items for children from Kindergarten to Teen, which can be used as replacement clothing and sent home with students as needed.
  • Costumes and Seasonal Items are donated to Coco's Cloth Swap, who hosts Pop-Up Events for families in need in the Twin Cities to come get those holiday fun items that often are skipped when finances are low.  Coco's collects these costumes year round from JBF and hosts multiple distribution events in September and October.
  • Books that Sellers Donate or are Collected at the Event are distributed through our local Girl Scout troops to Little Libraries in the Twin Cities NE Metro.  JBF's Charitable Book Giving Program fills up these libraries with a new selection after each event, while Girl Scouts earn badges through their services and support in the community.
  • New and Like New Stuffed Animals are distributed to St Paul and Maplewood Fire Stations. These seller donated plush friends are kept in emergency vehicles and used to help children during emergencies. These soft toys can help to bring some comfort in some of the worst of times.
  • Food Collected during our events are donated to the White Bear Area Food Shelf.  Community donated non- perishable food items are collected in place of general admission tickets with all items being donated.
  • Toy Drive and New Toy Items help to Support the White Bear Lake Lions Club.  Fall Toy Drive and Donated New Toys are given to the Lions Toy Shelf to help with their Holiday Giving Programs to Families in Need.
  • JBF also partners with local charity drives and community services to expand our charitable giving to areas in and outside our community.  We have worked with Trunk or Treat and Community Festivals through donated items used for hand outs and fundraising efforts like Bingo Prizes and Silent Auctions.  Donations & Discounts have also traveled outside our community through charitable drives sponsored by those in our area.  We have donations sent to Uganda (Africa), Fire impacted areas in Northern California and most recently to domestic shelters in Florida following the 2024 Hurricanes.

THANK YOU TO OUR GENEROUS SELLERS!

Have you thought about donating?

We highly recommend donating your items each sale—why? We have found that those who choose to reduce items for the half-price sale and also donate unsold items tend to price to sell. That means more items are likely to sell due to the great value shoppers receive during the half-price sale. And if items do not sell, they are donated to Joseph's Coat. So no matter what, everyone wins!

Why do sellers donate? Here's what they say.

"I love helping. That's why."

I love that all these items go to help other families. They have plenty of good life left in them so to know they are going to be given to others who can love and use them makes me happy.

• Serina J, JBF Seller, Giver and grandmom of 6

"All the resources stay right here."

I love to donate because items and resources stay right here in our community. They're not shipped off somewhere and sold for scrap. They go to help our neighbors and that's why I like to donate.

• Jordan M, JBF Seller, Giver and dad of 2

"I have kids. I get it."

I realize that we ALL need help from time to time. To think that items my kids have loved can help someone else's littles makes it all worth it. I love to sell my things, sure. BUT knowing that no matter what I'm helping families—that's a great feeling.

• Leslie R, JBF Seller, Giver and mom of 4

"It makes me clean up. I need the nudge."

Full confession—I'm not good at going through the kids' closets to clear stuff out. Each sale season, though, I've developed the practice of going through the closets to sell and then donate if items don't sell. JBF helps to keep me from becoming THAT mom. :)
